Second Life

The most appropriate way of describing Second Life is a virtual world for social networking. Though it is sometimes referred to as a game, it does not involve any target, scores, points, winners and losers and strategies.

Second life involves a virtual world, in which the users have to register themselves and create an ‘Avatar’, which would represent them. These, Avatars usually depict human figures with the desired physical attributes.

The game involves, many activities that the user can take up for personal enjoyment. He or she can have chatting with other avatars and the communication is usually text based. Some of the interesting features are that the avatars can also ‘shout’ or ‘whisper’.

Other interesting activities that the avatar can indulge in are transporting, either by foot or they can fly to certain heights. Traveling can also be done by means of driving. The avatar has the liberty to choose the means of transport.

The currency that is used in Second Life is Linden Dollars. The residents can create their own commodities, buy or sell them and set up trade practices. The other activities in Second Life include communities for sharing art. Residents can create their own virtual art forms and share it with other residents.

Education has taken a new dimension with Second Life. Residents throughout the world are using Second Life as a platform for conducting lectures and seminars and there are loads of information that people can access through Second Life. Many educational institutions are conducting many researches upon the usability of Second Life for creating new environments for education.

Second Life can otherwise be defined as a gateway to an individual’s dream world. All needs and desires can be fulfilled through this virtual world and gives a lot of scope for learning and socializing.
