The Star Craft II is a strategic game which is being developed by Blizzard Entertainment following the original game Star Craft. The game is planned to be released after the year 2007 and will be hosted in operating systems like Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac Os X.The designers of the game say that the Star Craft II will be an ultimate competitive and will involve real time strategic gaming.
The Star Craft II is also designed such that it focuses more on the multiplayer aspect when compared to its predecessor Star Craft. The Blizzard Entertainment Company says that the graphics used in the Star Craft II will give the game play an effect equal to cinematic quality. The game has a number of improvements in the areas of background features which enhance the environmental depth and scopes of realism. The game even has a number of advancements in the scenery allocations and more detailed picturisation of the space terrain such as floating platforms, asteroids, planets. The game also has the Havok Physics Engine which allows the players to have a more complex interaction with the environment. The game is expected to create a sensation in the world of strategic gaming.

Simcity

Simcity, the game was released in 1989, by Will Wright. The concept of the game is city building and therefore is meant for single player purpose.
The player gets to design or develop a city, with the help of tools. He or she has the liberty to make any establishments or structures of commercial, industrial or residential interest.
The most interesting aspect is that, the player gets to choose the tax rate, transportation systems and other administrative aspects of the city.
Even though, the game does not follow any specific goal, the development of the city is faced with challenges such as natural calamities and monsters.
The player has to surpass all this, in order to develop a successful city.
There have been several games released in the Simcity series. The game was recognized for its innovative concept as it broke the monotony of computer games.
It has also won many awards and is an interesting game to be played by a mature game player, with high level of creativity.

Heroes of Might and Magic

‘Heroes of might and magic’ is a game developed by New World Computing. It is a strategy based game, involving fantasy and conquest. The players play key roles of heroes and leaders of armies of mythical creatures such as vampires, dragons, unicorns etc.
The player has a choice of several town types to play, creatures to choose from and different spells to cast. This shows that the game is of fictitious value and does not attract all kinds of people.
A series of five games have been developed as Heroes of Might and Magic I, II, III, IV, V. Each game has many sub games within, as a choice for the player. The game series has won many accolades and awards. Strategy game of the Year 1995, Turn based strategy game of the year 1995, are some of them to be highlighted.

Age of Empires

Age of Empires is a very popular game developed for teenagers. Ensemble Studios launched this game in 1997. The game is set up in a historical background and theme, wherein, the player gets to head a tribal group and advance through four ages namely, ‘The Stone Age’, ‘The Tool Age’, ‘The Bronze Age’ and ‘The Iron Age’.
The game requires the player to develop civilizations, by generating revenue for the establishments of buildings, new units. This should be done in the course of defense against conquerors. The building of the Iron Age is the ultimate and the player gradually moves up to this level. On the whole, this game focuses upon development and gripping warfare.
The game was acclaimed for its graphics and historical background. It was appreciated for its unprecedented theme. However, largely, it was felt that the game predominantly was based on warfare and more importance was hooked to the destruction, rather than development.
Many series of the game have been developed since its release namely, Age of Empires II, Age of Empires III.

Civilization

Sid Meier, the genius developer of strategy games has come up with series of Civilization games. The latest in the series is Civilization IV. This game let you play as the political leader of one of the world’s nations. This leader has to take over the globe, starting from the Stone Age and moving right on through to the Space Age. The leader has to fight battles against neighboring civilizations in order to extend its borders. There can be possibility of natural disasters like floods and plagues that can devastate your kingdom and leave you with nothing. In Civilization IV, the new border system means that no units from any other country can enter your kingdom unless you have agreed to open borders with that particular country. “Culture points” has been improved in Civilization IV. So, if you are a fan of this series, you should definitely play Civilization IV.
