WoW Professions

Apart from the character classes, players are allowed to chose professions. They may choose all three secondary professions and two primary professions if they wish to. Basically the professions are of two types : Gathering and Item Creation. Most of the players choose to pair two inter-related professions, which gives an additional advantage to the character as he can gather the raw materials for the main crafting skill. The Burning Crusade expansion also introduced the Jewel crafting profession, with its paired skill being Mining.
Some of the most common paired skills are as such:
- Skinning and leatherworking
- Mining and Blacksmithing
- Mining and Engineering
- Herbalism and Alchem
- Tailoring and Enchanting

WoW Character Types

Characters in World of Warcraft are divided into two categories i.e. Playing Characters ( PCs ) and Non Playing Characters ( NPCs ), out of which the NPCs are the ones which have a lot of diversification. Playing Characters constitutes the actual players playing around the world. There is a tag to each Playing Character which can be either green , blue , red , or yellow depending on the faction to which the player belongs and its current Player vs. Player status.
Non Playing Characters ( NPCs ) are those which interact with the players through Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) or scripted commands and events. There are various kinds of NPCs. They can be either friendly ( having their name displayed in green ) or hostile ( having their name displayed in red ). The hostile NPCs are of opposite faction and mobs and are also referred to as Creeps. Apart from these there are neutral NPCs also which are ofcourse neutral and become hostile only if provoked. These have their names displayed in yellow.
NPCs main function is to help maintain the virual world. They often buy and sell merchandise, give quests, train profession and class skills, and provide a huge amount of services needed by the character to advance in the game. Some of the NPCs can just offer a advice or push the story forward, others are seen patrolling around set paths to defent their cities from hostile attacks by players and NPCs of the other faction which aim to invade the city.
NPC interaction is often affected by a player’s reputation with the NPCs. For example, certain NPCs may offer more items if you have a higher reputation with the NPCs or with its faction.The reputation can be increased by killing NPCs of the opposite faction or handing useful items to the NPCs.

WoW Characters

In World of Warcraft, characters are bound to particular user accounts which in turn can be put to use on all servers ( commonly called as realms ). Characters are free to move from one server to another for a small fee. Users are allowed to create to a maximum limit of ten characters per realm and with a maximum of fifty per user account. Wow Races and Classes

Players have to create characters, which then serve as their online personally in the virtual world of Azeroth. When the player creates a character in World of Warcraft, he chooses it from ten different races which have nine different character classes. The races are divided into two opposite factions which are The Alliance and The Horde.
The Horde faction constitutes of Orcs, Undead ( also referred to as Forsaken ), Tauren, Blood Elves ( which require The Burning Crusade expansion ) and Trolls.
The Allaince constitutes of Night Elves, Humans, Gnomes, Dwarves and Draenei ( require The Burning Crusade expansion )
There are also many NPC ( Non Playing Character ) races like the Goblins, Murlics, Naga and Ogres.

WoW Player Vs Player Rankings & Summary

In World of Warcraft another optional feature is that of PvP ( Player versus Player ). This feature of the game is strictly checked as it can unintentionally offend many of the players. In PvP characters from two different factions battle each other out. Apart from duels and “ arena ”, the only factors contributing to PvP is battle between the factions and is commonly known as Faction vs. Faction ( FvF ). World of Warcraft has both the servers, PvE ( player vs environment ) and PvP.
Characters can only be attacked by others in a normal server when they have “ flagged ” themselves for PvP through a command, gone into a hostile city, charged on a flagged enemy , or helped a flagged character by means of helpful spells.
In a PvP server, any character outside the initial starting area ( also known as contested zone ) is automatically flagged and opposite faction players may attack each other freely without any restriction. Players also “ raid ” towns and cities which belong to the opposite faction by attacking NPCs ( Non Playing Characters ). Many guidelines and rules are held out in PvP servers because by the nature of the game, Blizzard Entertainment expects PvP server to be strictly controlled but some actions, which can hurt the players, are tolerated to maintain the “ reality ” of the game i.e. the war between the two factions Alliance and Horde.
With the release of the latest 2.0 World of Warcraft patch, players are no longer required to compete in order to claim higher ranks, the whole honour system has been transformed to allow players to compile their honor points which they can achieve from PvP. They can get honour points by eliminating other players or by winning special PvP events. Each time you kill a player, after the first kill of ten points, one point is subtracted. The PvP events comprise of battlegrounds, which are small contests between the players of both the factions. For example in Arathi Basin, teams can compete for resource nodes like mine, lumber mill, farm , stables, and blacksmith and whoever first achieves two thousand resources wins the battle. There are four battle grounds in the game which are Arathi Basin depending on Resources, the Warsong Gulch depending on CTF, Eye of the Storm which depends on Resources as well as CTF, and last but not the least Alterac Valley in which the main goal is to kill the opposite side’s general.
Another feature called the arena system has been added which includes another rank based system. In this, teams of two, three, or five are created to battle against each other. Every particular team will be given a rank after three months and they then receive Arena points that are directly based on the rank and can be divided amongst the team members later on. These arena points are used to get special items like the Gladiator’s gear. But in order to achieve points, the member of the team must take part in a minimum of 30% of the team’s fights.
A lot of players criticized the previous PvP ranking system, which wanted the players to make an unsuitable time investment of approximately 12 hours a day or more, to achieve high ranks. This is considered to be the prime reason as to why Blizzard Entertainment completely reformed the PvP system. It was noted that most of the PvE content was easily approachable to every player without consistent play.
The points which have been saved by the players can be used to purchase the best PvP gear available many of them being very expensive like the marshal’s weapons and armor and even the newer burning crusade gear. Before the patch, players had been awarded honor daily according to the success they had , and were compared against fellow players weekly to determine their hold on the honor points.
After the release of The Burning Crusade the new objective based PvP has been put into most continents in the outland, like Nagrand, Zangarmarsh, Hellfire Peninsula and Terrokar Forest, in which the players should stay in a particular field and acquire the target by having the major part of the faction occupy the target for a greater amount of time. But like the conventional PvP rewards system, honor points are still awarded per kill and can be used as in game currency to buy rewards. Furthermore, marks are given to each faction from quest rewards and honorable kills which can be exchanged in some cities for rewards as well. Factions are also allowed to capture neutral towns like Halaa, which gives an advantage by unlocking quests, sellers and gives rep awards, which are not accessible when the opposite faction is in control of the town.
